How anyone can look at the precipitated paintings produced through the mediumship of the Bangs sisters and read the testimony of some of the people whose loved ones appeared in the paintings – images produced in a matter of minutes under lighted conditions with the sisters some distance from the canvases – and still think that it was all trickery, as some modern references make them out to have been, is beyond me. The explanatory nature of “fellatio” – “electric bodies” – “beautiful stranger” – the poem “uncensored” unfolds on the page: “thrust in your eyes/against my pages/repent with me/ in unison/until you surrender/to loves doctrine”. I still think this was an amazing and thrilling duology that I would easily re-read again. Topol could not possibly have known how timely this whole concept is and how fascinating this element is for readers to absorb and understand.
